In ’99 ‘Kinesis International’ asked us if we would help develop their brand for the UK market, back then, all they had to offer were a handful of beautifully made carbon forks, so we jumped in and designed our first road frame, the ‘Racelight R’.
This first Kinesis frame was nothing exotic, it was a basic 7005 series, double butted road frame, but it hit the mark with its quality welds and correct detailing and we found a niche with riders who wanted to build themselves a unique, high quality, performance bike without breaking the bank. Encouraged by the success of the ‘R’, we created the ‘Racelight T’, as a lightweight winter training frame and fork with clearance for proper ‘guards and using long drop-brakes. This Kinesis bike frame was unique at the time, it was designed for the idiosyncrasies of UK riding conditions (e.g. rain and potholes) and became almost the ‘default’ frame set for a quality winter build.
Next came the first ‘Crosslight’, taking more influence from MTB tubing, geometry and clearances than road, it became an instant hit with the fledgling CX scene of the day. Next was the Easton tubed Maxlight XC. The Maxlight was light, well priced and the geometry was tuned for the tight, fast, flowing singletrack that we loved to ride.
The values behind these early bike frames still apply to our Kinesis UK designed range over 15 years on: Correct detailing. Quality. Affordability. Innovation. Adaptability. Performance. Durability.
We all ride here and over the years we’ve built a team with broad knowledge and experience that is key to us being able to continue to develop the Kinesis UK bikes range into the future. Our enthusiasm & passion for product development has helped understand what materials work well together and how relatively small alterations in tubing wall thickness, carbon layup and geometry can translate into significant benefits in ride quality and handling.
Our Kinesis UK bike range now includes a range of Road, Cyclocross and Mountain Bike frame sets, complete Kinesis bikes, forks, wheels, seatposts, handlebars and we’re working on still more products for the future.
Above all, Kinesis UK is about providing the best basis for your next bike build. We listen to your feedback and suggestions and plough them back into our frame designs, close communication with our customers and teams will always be at the heart of our products.
All Kinesis UK products are designed by us, in the UK, for the dedicated enthusiast who knows exactly what he or she wants and is not prepared to settle for a generic mass-market bike.
Thanks very much for your interest in what we’re doing. We’re proud of what Kinesis UK has become. We look forward to being at the heart of your next bike.
